Praying Witr - A Sunnah of the Prophet

SUMMARY: The hadith encourages people to pray Witr, which is a Sunnah established by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: Witr is not a must, but it is a Sunnah that the Messenger of Allah established, so pray Witr, O people of the Qur'an.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْخُرَيْبِيُّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ الْوَتْرَ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَأَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ‏.‏
