Eating Sacrificial Animals After Three Days

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade eating from sacrificial animals after three days.

It was narrated that Abu 'Ubaid, the freed slave of 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf, said: Then I was present with 'Ali. He prayed before delivering the khutbah, with no adhan or iqamah, then he delivered the khutbah. He said: O people, the Messenger of Allah forbade eating from your sacrificial animals after three days, so do not eat from them after today.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) prohibition of eating from sacrificial animals after three days. It was narrated by Abu 'Ubaid, the freed slave of 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf, that he was present with Ali when he delivered a khutbah in which he said that the Messenger of Allah had forbidden eating from sacrificial animals after three days. This means that it is not permissible to eat from these animals beyond this time period. This hadith teaches us to be mindful and respectful of our sacrifices and not take them for granted or waste them by consuming them beyond their due date. We should also remember to be thankful for all our blessings and use them responsibly as Allah has commanded us to do so in His Book.
