Musnad Ahmad 1165 (Book 5, Hadith 577) #34803
Respect for Possessions

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that even the smallest of possessions should be respected and taken care of, as they are a part of someone's legacy.

Buraid bin Asram said. I heard 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) say: A man from among Ahl-us-suffah died, and he left behind a dinar and a dirham. It was said: O Messenger of Allah , he left behind a dinar and a dirham. He said: "Two brands; offer the funeral prayer for your companion".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect for all possessions no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. Offer funeral prayers for companions when they pass away so we can remember them in our hearts forever.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about respecting the possessions left behind by someone who has passed away. It was narrated by Buraid bin Asram, who said he heard 'Ali say that a man from among Ahl-us-suffah died and left behind a dinar and a dirham. When it was reported to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) he said "Two brands; offer the funeral prayer for your companion." This shows us that even something as small as one dinar and one dirham should be respected, because it is part of someone's legacy. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to show respect for all possessions, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. He also taught us to offer funeral prayers for our companions when they pass away, so we can remember them in our hearts forever.
