Wiping Over Leather Slippers in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) allowed travelers to wipe over their leather slippers for three days and nights, and one day and night for those who are not travelling.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah allowed three days and nights for the traveler and one day and night for one who is not travelling (ie, with regard to wiping over the khuffain or leather slippers)

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic rulings regarding wiping over leather slipper according to your circumstances if you are a traveler or non traveler .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Islamic ruling on wiping over leather slippers. It was narrated by 'Ali ibn Abi Talib that the Messenger of Allah allowed travelers to wipe over their leather slippers for three days and nights, while non-travelers were only allowed to do so for one day and night. This ruling is based on the idea that it is difficult for travelers to perform wudu or ablution every time they need to pray due to their frequent movement from place to place. Therefore, this ruling allows them a certain amount of time where they can perform wudu once at the beginning of their journey, then simply wipe over their leather slippers when they need to pray during the duration of their travel. This hadith teaches us that Islam takes into consideration people's circumstances when making rulings, as well as emphasizing cleanliness before prayer.
