Prohibitions on Clothing and Beverage

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade 'Ali from wearing certain items of clothing and drinking a certain type of beverage.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah forbade me to wear rings of gold, to use red saddle pads, to wear garments made from a blend of linen and silk, and nabeedh made from barley.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ هُبَيْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْ خَاتَمِ الذَّهَبِ وَعَنْ الْمِيثَرَةِ وَعَنْ الْقَسِّيِّ وَعَنْ الْجِعَةِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Ali ibn Abi Talib states that the Prophet Muhammad forbade him from wearing rings made of gold, using red saddle pads for riding animals, wearing garments made from a blend of linen and silk, and drinking nabeedh made from barley. This hadith teaches us that we should not indulge in extravagance or luxury when it comes to our clothing or beverages. We should also be mindful of the materials we use for our clothing as some may be considered inappropriate or extravagant. Furthermore, this hadith serves as an example to us all that even though the Prophet was known for his generosity and kindness towards others he still held himself to high standards when it came to his own personal conduct.
