The Consequence of Lying About the Prophet

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against deliberately lying about him, and the consequence of doing so is to take one's place in Hell.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever tells a lie about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ النَّرْسِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنْ النَّارِ‏.‏
