Prohibitions on Clothing and Accessories

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade 'Ali from wearing gold rings, garments made of linen and silk, and using red saddlecloths.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah forbade me to wear gold rings, to wear garments made from a blend of linen and silk, and to use red saddlecloths.
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ هُبَيْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْ التَّخَتُّمِ بِالذَّهَبِ وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْقَسِّيِّ وَالْمَيَاثِرِ‏.‏
