Musnad Ahmad 996 (Book 5, Hadith 420) #34646
Reciting Tasbeeh, Tahmeed and Takbeer Instead of Asking for a Servant

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ advised 'Ali and Fatimah to recite certain phrases of tasbeeh, tahmeed and takbeer when going to sleep instead of asking for a servant.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said. Fatimah (رضي الله عنها) complained about the marks left on her hands from grinding flour. We came to the Prophet and I said: O Messenger of Allah , Fatimah is complaining to you about the marks left on her hands from grinding flour and she is asking you for a servant. He said: "Shall I not tell you about something that is better for you than a servant?" and he told us, when going to sleep, to say thirty-three and thirty-three and thirty-four of tasbeeh, tahmeed and takbeer.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates the story of how Fatimah complained to the Prophet Muhammad about her hands being sore from grinding flour. In response, the Prophet advised them to recite thirty-three times each of three phrases - tasbeeh, tahmeed and takbeer - before going to sleep instead of asking for a servant. These phrases are forms of supplication, praise and glorification which are all acts that bring one closer to Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should turn towards Allah in times of difficulty rather than relying on worldly solutions such as servants or other material possessions. It also encourages us to make supplications regularly as part of our daily routine in order to strengthen our relationship with Allah.
