Musnad Ahmad 980 (Book 5, Hadith 404) #34630
Cursing Riba and Other Practices

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cursed those who practice riba (usury), withhold zakah, do tattoos, and divorce a woman so that she becomes permissible for her first husband. He also forbade wailing for the deceased.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah cursed riba, the one who pays it, the two who witness it, the one who writes it down, the one who withholds zakah, the woman who does tattoos and the woman who gets tattoos done, the one who marries a woman and divorces her so that she becomes permissible for her first husband, and the one for whom that is done. He said: And he used to forbid wailing (for the deceased).

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity ; Follow Islamic teachings on beauty standards set by Allah Almighty ; Avoid exploitation through usury ; Respect sanctity of marriage .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us to stay away from certain practices that are considered sinful in Islam. One of these practices is riba or usury which is the act of lending money with an interest rate attached to it. This practice is forbidden in Islam as it leads to exploitation of people who are already in need of money. Another practice he warned against was withholding zakah which is a form of charity given by Muslims to those who are less fortunate than them. He also cursed those who do tattoos and get tattoos done as this goes against Islamic teachings on modesty and beauty standards set by Allah Almighty. Additionally he forbade divorcing a woman so that she becomes permissible for her first husband as this goes against the sanctity of marriage in Islam and can lead to further complications between couples if not done properly according to Islamic law. Lastly he forbid wailing for the deceased as this can lead people astray from remembering Allah Almighty during times of grief instead focusing on their own sorrows too much instead of being patient with what Allah has decreed for them.
