Prayer Requirements for Travellers and Non-Travellers

SUMMARY: Allah enjoined the prayer to be two rak'at when travelling and increased it for non-travelers.

Narrated 'Aisha: the mother of believers: Allah enjoined the prayer when He enjoined it, it was two rak'at only (in every prayer) both when in residence or on journey. Then the prayers offered on journey remained the same, but (the rak'at of) the prayers for non-travelers were increased.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قَالَتْ ‏ "‏ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ الصَّلاَةَ حِينَ فَرَضَهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي الْحَضَرِ وَالسَّفَرِ، فَأُقِرَّتْ صَلاَةُ السَّفَرِ، وَزِيدَ فِي صَلاَةِ الْحَضَرِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the requirements of prayer for both travellers and non-travellers. According to this hadith, Allah has commanded that when travelling, prayers should consist of two rak'ats only. However, if one is not travelling then they must pray more than two rak'ats in each prayer. This hadith teaches us that we must always abide by Allah's commands and follow His instructions in order to gain His blessings and mercy. It also reminds us that we should strive to perform our prayers with sincerity and devotion no matter where we are or what situation we find ourselves in.
