Musnad Ahmad 936 (Book 5, Hadith 363) #34589
Praying for Blessings on Madinah

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) praying to Allah for the people of Madinah, asking for blessings on their mudd and sa' just as He blessed the people of Makkah.

It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) that he said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah and when we were in the Harrah, at as-Suqya (a halting place between Makkah and Madinah) which belonged to Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, the Messenger of Allah said: 'Bring me some water for wudoo’". When he had done wudoo he stood up and turned to face the qiblah, then he said takbeer, then he said: O Allah, Ibrahim was Your slave and Your close friend; he prayed for blessing for the people of Makkah. I am Muhammad, Your slave and Your Messenger; I am praying to You for the people of Madinah - bless their mudd and sa' weights and measures as You blessed the people of Makkah, double the blessing You bestowed upon the people of Makkah, a twofold blessing".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray to Allah for blessings upon your fellow Muslims .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident in which Prophet Muhammad went out with his companion 'Ali bin Abi Talib and stopped at a place called as-Suqya. There he asked for water to perform wudoo and then faced the qiblah and said takbeer before making a prayer to Allah. In this prayer he asked that Allah blesses the people of Madinah with double the blessing He bestowed upon the people of Makkah. This hadith teaches us that we should always pray to Allah for blessings upon our fellow Muslims, just like Prophet Muhammad did when he prayed for blessings on both Makkans and Madinese alike. It also teaches us that we should be grateful when we receive any kind of blessing from Allah because it could have been much more than what it was given if only we were more deserving or if our prayers were more sincere.
