Sahih al-Bukhari 3617 (Book 61, Hadith 124) #3456
The Mysterious Death of a Christian Man

SUMMARY: A Christian man who had embraced Islam and wrote revelations for the Prophet Muhammad, later returned to Christianity and claimed that Muhammad knew nothing but what he had written for him. He died mysteriously and his body was thrown out of the grave by the earth three times.

Narrated Anas: There was a Christian who embraced Islam and read Surat-al-Baqara and Al-'Imran, and he used to write (the revelations) for the Prophet. Later on he returned to Christianity again and he used to say: "Muhammad knows nothing but what I have written for him". Then Allah caused him to die, and the people buried him, but in the morning they saw that the earth had thrown his body out. They said, "This is the act of Muhammad and his companions. They dug the grave of our companion and took his body out of it because he had run away from them". They again dug the grave deeply for him, but in the morning they again saw that the earth had thrown his body out. They said, "This is an act of Muhammad and his companions. They dug the grave of our companion and threw his body outside it, for he had run away from them". They dug the grave for him as deep as they could, but in the morning they again saw that the earth had thrown his body out. So they believed that what had befallen him was not done by human beings and had to leave him thrown (on the ground).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a Christian man who accepted Islam, read Surat al Baqara and Al 'Imran, and wrote down revelations for the Prophet Muhammad. However, he later returned to Christianity again and said that the Prophet knew nothing but what he himself had written down. After this, Allah caused him to die in an unusual way; when people buried him in a grave, his body was thrown out by the earth three times! This made them believe that it was not done by any human being so they left his body as it is. This incident teaches us that we should never doubt or question Allah's power or His decisions as He knows best what is right for us. We should also be careful with our words as we are accountable for every single one of them on Judgement Day.
