The Wrongness of Selling Slaves

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that it is wrong to sell slaves and encouraged Ali to get the slave back.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah gave me two slaves who were brothers, and I sold one of them, The Messenger of Allah said: 'What happened to the two slaves?' I said: I have sold one of them. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Get him back'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect for all people regardless of their social status or economic standing in society, treating everyone with respect and dignity as they are all equal in God's eyes

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the wrongness of selling slaves. It was narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, who said that the Prophet Muhammad gave him two slaves who were brothers. When he sold one of them, the Prophet asked what happened to them and Ali told him he had sold one of them. The Prophet then told him to get him back, showing that it is wrong to sell slaves. This teaches us an important lesson about respecting all people regardless of their social status or economic standing in society. We should not buy or sell people as if they are objects; rather we should treat everyone with respect and dignity as they are all equal in God's eyes.
