Musnad Ahmad 743 (Book 5, Hadith 176) #34402
The Reward of Charity

SUMMARY: Giving charity is rewarded regardless of the amount given.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: Three people came to the Prophet and one of them said: O Messenger of Allah , I had one hundred dinars and i gave ten of them in charity. The next one said: O Messenger of Allah , I had ten dinars and I gave one of them in charity. The next one said: I had one dinar and I gave one-tenth of it in charity. The Messenger of Allah said: "You are all the same in reward, for each of you gave one tenth of his wealth".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give whatever you can afford as charity with sincerity and faithfulness
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the reward for giving charity, no matter how small or large the amount may be. It was narrated by 'Ali ibn Abi Talib that three people came to the Prophet and each one gave a different amount in charity. The first person gave ten dinars, the second person gave one dinar, and the third person gave one-tenth of a dinar. Despite their differences in wealth and amounts given, they were all equal in reward because each of them had given one tenth of their wealth as charity. This hadith teaches us that it is not necessary to give large amounts when giving charity; even small acts can be rewarded if done with sincerity and faithfulness. It also encourages us to give whatever we can afford so that we can reap its rewards both in this world and hereafter.
