Musnad Ahmad 736 (Book 5, Hadith 169) #34395
Carrying Out Hadd Punishments

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) instructed Ali to carry out the hadd punishment on a servant who committed an immoral action, but only after her post partum bleeding had ended.

It was narrated from 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) that A servant of the Prophet committed an immoral action and the Prophet wanted me to carry out the hadd punishment on her. I went to her and found that the post partum bleeding had not yet ended. So I went to him and told him, and he said: "When her bleeding ends, carry out the hadd punishment on her. Carry out the Hadd punishments on those whom your right hands possess (ie, slave women)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Consider all aspects of someone's situation before punishing them. Make sure justice is served in a fair manner.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of carrying out the prescribed punishments for those who commit immoral actions. The Prophet Muhammad instructed Ali to carry out the hadd punishment on a servant who committed an immoral action, but only after her post partum bleeding had ended. This shows that even though it is important to punish those who do wrong, it is also important to be compassionate and understanding of their circumstances. It also teaches us that we should not rush into punishing someone without first considering all aspects of their situation and making sure that justice is served in a fair manner.
