Words of Comfort in Times of Distress

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the words that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught 'Ali bin Abi Talib to say in times of distress or hardship.

It was narrated that 'Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah taught me some words and told me to say them if some distress or hardship befell me: 'There is no god but Allah, the Most Generous, the Forbearing, glory be to Him, Blessed be Allah, Lord of the mighty Throne and praise be to Allah the lord of the Worlds.
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَقَّنَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ وَأَمَرَنِي إِنْ نَزَلَ بِي كَرْبٌ أَوْ شِدَّةٌ أَنْ أَقُولَهُنَّ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْكَرِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about a set of words that Prophet Muhammad taught his companion Ali bin Abi Talib when he was going through a difficult time. The words are “There is no god but Allah, the Most Generous, the Forbearing, glory be to Him, Blessed be Allah, Lord of the mighty Throne and praise be to Allah the lord of the Worlds”. These words are meant as a reminder for us that even though we may go through tough times and hardships in life, we should always remember that God is with us and He will help us get through it all. We should also remember how generous and forgiving God is towards His creation and thank Him for all His blessings on us.
