The Prophet's Gift to His Daughter

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad gave his daughter Fatimah a trousseau of gifts, including a velvet garment, a waterskin and a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibres.

It was narrated that 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah gave Fatimah (رضي الله عنها) a trousseau of a velvet garment, a waterskin and a leather pillow stuffed with idhkhir. Abu Sa’eed said: Palm fibres.
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، وَأَبُو سَعِيدٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ جَهَّزَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فِي خَمِيلٍ وَقِرْبَةٍ وَوِسَادَةِ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا إِذْخِرٌ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ لِيفٌ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates the story of how the Messenger of Allah gave his beloved daughter Fatimah a special gift. This gift included three items; a velvet garment for her to wear, a waterskin for her to use and lastly an idhkhir filled leather pillow for her comfort. Idhkhir is made from palm fibres which are known for their softness and comfortability. This hadith teaches us that it is important to show love and appreciation towards our family members by giving them gifts as tokens of our love and affection towards them. It also teaches us that we should be generous in giving gifts even if they are small or simple because it can bring joy to those who receive them.
