The Special Status of Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) never mentioned his father and mother together for anyone except Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas, and on the day of Uhud he said "Shoot, O Sa'd, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you!"

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Shaddad: Sa'd bin al-Hadi said: I heard 'Ali (رضي الله عنه) say: I never heard the Prophet mention his father and mother together (in the phrase 'may my father and mother be sacrificed for you') for anyone except Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas. I heard him say on the day of Uhud: 'Shoot, O Sa'd, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you!'

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect towards those who are deserving of it no matter who they are or what position they hold in society .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the special status that was given to Sad bin Abi Waqqas by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. On the day of Uhud, when they were in battle against their enemies, the Prophet ﷺ called out to Sad saying “Shoot O Sad! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you!” This is a phrase that is used when someone wants to express their love or appreciation for someone else. It shows how much respect and admiration the prophet had for Sad. He even went so far as to say this phrase which he rarely said about anyone else. This hadith teaches us that we should always show respect towards those who are deserving of it no matter who they are or what position they hold in society. We should also strive to emulate those qualities which make people worthy of such respect from others.
