Words of Comfort from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the words of comfort that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught to Ali bin Abi Talib in times of calamity.

It was narrated that 'Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah taught me to say, if calamity befell me: "There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing the Most Generous; glory be to Allah, blessed be Allah, the Lord of the mighty Throne; praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds".
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِذَا نَزَلَ بِي كَرْبٌ أَنْ أَقُولَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, it is narrated that Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his companion Ali bin Abi Talib a few words to say when he was faced with a calamity. These words are “There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing the Most Generous; glory be to Allah, blessed be Allah, the Lord of the mighty Throne; praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds”. This phrase serves as a reminder for us that we should always turn towards our Creator in times of difficulty and seek His help and mercy. It also reminds us that He alone has power over all things and He alone can provide us with relief from our troubles. Furthermore, it teaches us how we should express our gratitude towards Him for His countless blessings by praising Him and glorifying His name at all times.
