Sahih al-Bukhari 3584 (Book 61, Hadith 93) #3425
The Crying Date Palm Tree

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to deliver his sermon near a date palm tree, and when he did, the tree would cry like a child. The Prophet (ﷺ) then embraced it and said that it was crying for missing the religious knowledge given near to it.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet used to stand by a tree or a date-palm on Friday. Then an Ansari woman or man said".O Allah's Messenger ! Shall we make a pulpit for you?" He replied, "If you wish". So they made a pulpit for him and when it was Friday, he proceeded towards the pulpit (for delivering the sermon). The date palm cried like a child! The Prophet descended (the pulpit) and embraced it while it continued moaning like a child being quietened. The Prophet said, "It was crying for (missing) what it used to hear of religious knowledge given near to it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect and kindness towards all of Allah's creations

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to deliver his sermon near a date palm tree every Friday. When he did, the tree would cry like a child. Upon seeing this, the Prophet ﷺ embraced it and said that it was crying for missing out on hearing religious knowledge being given nearby. This hadith teaches us that even inanimate objects can be moved by spiritual matters such as religious knowledge being shared with others. It also shows us how much respect and love the Prophet ﷺ had for all of Allah's creations, even trees! We should strive to emulate this example of kindness towards all living things in our own lives as well.
