Musnad Ahmad 570 (Book 5, Hadith 9) #34235
Entering the Presence of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) practice of allowing people to enter his presence, depending on whether he was praying or not.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Nujayy said: 'Ali said: There was a time before dawn when I would ask to enter upon the Messenger of Allah . If he was praying, he would say Subhan Allah to me, and that was my permission to enter; if he was not praying, he would give me permission to enter.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about a practice that was observed by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is narrated that 'Abdullah bin Nujayy said that Ali said that there was a time before dawn when he would ask to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If he was praying at this time then he would say Subhan Allah as a sign for Ali to enter and if he wasn't praying then he would give him permission to enter. This shows us how much respect and reverence the Prophet ﷺ had for prayer and how important it was for him to be in prayer during this time before dawn. It also shows us how much respect and consideration he showed towards those who wanted to meet with him as well as his willingness to listen and help them even when in prayer.
