The Caliphate of Uthman

SUMMARY: Uthman was killed on the eighteenth of Dhul-Hijjah 35 AH, and his caliphate lasted twelve years less twelve days.

It was narrated that Abu Ma'shar said: 'Uthman (رضي الله عنه) was killed on the eighteenth of Dhul-Hijjah 35 AH, His caliphate lasted twelve years less twelve days.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ الطَّبَّاعِ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ، قَالَ وَقُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِثَمَانِ عَشْرَةَ مَضَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ وَكَانَتْ خِلَافَتُهُ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً إِلَّا اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ يَوْمًا‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the caliphate of Uthman. He was a companion of Prophet Muhammad and the third caliph after him. He was killed on the eighteenth day of Dhul-Hijjah in 35 AH which is equivalent to 656 AD. His caliphate lasted for 12 years and 12 days. This hadith serves as an important reminder that life is short and we should make use of our time wisely by doing good deeds that will benefit us in this world and hereafter. It also teaches us to be humble even when we are in positions of power or authority as it can be taken away from us at any moment without warning or explanation.
