Musnad Ahmad 526 (Book 4, Hadith 118) #34192
Patience Rewarded

SUMMARY: Uthman bin Affan saw the Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Umar in a dream and was told to be patient. He was then killed with a Mushaf (Qur'an).

It was narrated from Muslim Abu Sa'eed, the freed slave of 'Uthman bin 'Affan (رضي الله عنه) that 'Uthman bin 'Affan manumitted twenty slaves, and called for some pants and put them on; he had never worn them before, either during the Jahiliyyah or in Islam. And he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah in a dream last night, and I saw Abu Bakr and 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) and they said to me, Be patient, for you will break your fast with us tomorrow. Then he called for a Mushaf and opened it, and he was killed with it in front of him.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the story of Uthman bin Affan, who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad. He had never worn pants before either during Jahiliyyah or in Islam but he put them on after manumitting twenty slaves. Then he saw Prophet Muhammad, Abu Bakr and Umar in his dream who told him to be patient as he would break his fast with them tomorrow. After that, he opened a Mushaf which is another name for the Qur’an and was killed with it in front of him. This hadith teaches us that patience is rewarded by Allah even if we don't understand why something happened at first. It also shows us how important it is to follow Allah's commands even if they are difficult for us because we will always be rewarded for our obedience eventually.
