Musnad Ahmad 509 (Book 4, Hadith 102) #34176
Shedding Blood of a Muslim

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim except in three cases.

It was narrated that Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif said. We were with Uthman when he was besieged in the house. He said: Why would they kill me? I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'It is not permissible (to shed) the blood of a Muslim except in three cases: If a man disbelieves after becoming Muslim, or commits zina after being married or kills someone and is executed in retaliation'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim, except in three cases. The first case is when someone becomes a disbeliever after becoming a Muslim. The second case is when someone commits zina after being married and the third case is when someone kills another person and they are executed in retaliation for their crime. This hadith teaches us that we should respect each other's lives and not take them away without any valid reason as prescribed by Islam. We should also be careful about our actions so that we do not end up committing any major sins which can lead to death or execution as punishment.
