Prediction of Uthman's Death

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prediction of Uthman's death and how it will be different from Umar's death.

Abu 'Awn al-Ansari narrated that 'Uthman bin 'Affan (رضي الله عنه) said to Ibn Mas'ood: Are you going to give up what I heard about you? He was apologetic, then 'Uthman (رضي الله عنه) said: Woe to you! I heard and remembered and it is not as you heard; the Messenger of Allah said: 'A leader will be killed and a criminal will commit a crime'. I am the one who will be killed, not 'Umar رضي الله عنه); rather 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) was killed by one man, but a group of people will kill me
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَرْطَاةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُنْذِرِ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَوْنٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لِابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ هَلْ أَنْتَ مُنْتَهٍ عَمَّا بَلَغَنِي عَنْكَ فَاعْتَذَرَ بَعْضَ الْعُذْرِ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَيْحَكَ إِنِّي قَدْ سَمِعْتُ وَحَفِظْتُ وَلَيْسَ كَمَا سَمِعْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ سَيُقْتَلُ أَمِيرٌ وَيَنْتَزِي مُنْتَزٍ وَإِنِّي أَنَا الْمَقْتُولُ وَلَيْسَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِنَّمَا قَتَلَ عُمَرَ وَاحِدٌ وَإِنَّهُ يُجْتَمَعُ عَلَيَّ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prediction of Uthman bin 'Affan's death. It was narrated by Abu 'Awn al-Ansari that Uthman said to Ibn Mas'ood, "Are you going to give up what I heard about you?" He was apologetic, then Uthman said, "Woe to you! I heard and remembered and it is not as you heard; the Messenger of Allah said, 'A leader will be killed and a criminal will commit a crime.' I am the one who will be killed, not 'Umar; rather 'Umar was killed by one man, but a group of people will kill me." This hadith teaches us that leaders should always remember their responsibilities towards their people. It also teaches us that we should never forget our duties as Muslims even if we are in positions of power or authority. We must always strive to do what is right according to Islamic teachings. Furthermore, this hadith reminds us that no matter how powerful or influential someone may be in life they are still mortal and can die at any time.
