QUICK LESSONS:
Respectfully express your opinion even if it differs from others'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses a difference in opinion between two companions of Prophet Muhammad, Uthman and Ali. The practice of 'Tamattu'' was forbidden by Uthman but was enjoined by Ali. When asked why he forbade it, Uthman replied that they were in a state of fear at that time. It is unclear what they were afraid of but this hadith serves as an example to show how even companions can have different opinions on certain matters yet still remain respectful towards each other. It also shows us that we should not be afraid to express our opinions even if it differs from others as long as we do so respectfully and with knowledge.
