Showing Respect for the Dead

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to show respect for the dead by standing up when a funeral passes.

It was narrated from 'Uthman that he saw a funeral and stood up for it and said: I saw the Messenger of Allah see a funeral and stand up for it.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مَنَّاحٍ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ رَأَى جَنَازَةً فَقَامَ إِلَيْهَا وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ رَأَى جَنَازَةً فَقَامَ لَهَا‏.‏

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to show respect and honor for the dead by standing up when a funeral procession passes.
