Torment in the Grave Due to Wailing

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ said that the deceased will be tormented in their grave due to the wailing of those mourning them.

It was narrated from Ibn ʼUmar, from 'Umar, that the Prophet said: 'The deceased is tormented in his grave because of the wailing over him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Cry quietly when mourning someone who has passed away

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when someone passes away and people mourn for them by wailing and crying loudly, it causes torment for the deceased in their grave. This is because Allah has forbidden us from doing this as it is a sign of disrespect towards Him and His creation. We should instead remember Allah's mercy and forgiveness upon us all and pray for our loved ones who have passed away. We should also remember that we will all eventually pass away one day so we should strive to do good deeds while we are alive so that our death can be a source of comfort rather than distress for those around us.
