Musnad Ahmad 351 (Book 2, Hadith 256) #34031
The Importance of Following Sunnah During Hajj

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions in performing Hajj rituals, and not to rush in giving fatwas.

It was narrated from Abu Moosa that he used to advise people to do Tamattu' (in Hajj). A man said to him: Do not rush in giving Fatwas, for you do not know what Ameer al-Mu'mineen has decided with regard to Haji. When he met him later on, he asked him and 'Umar said: I know that the Prophet did it and his Companions did it, but I do not like the people to have intercourse with their wives beneath the arak trees and go out to Hajj with their heads dripping(from ghusl).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions in performing Hajj rituals. Abu Moosa was advising people to do Tamattu' during their pilgrimage to Makkah. A man asked him not to rush into giving fatwas as he did not know what Ameer al-Mu'mineen has decided with regard to Haji. When Abu Moosa met 'Umar later on, he asked him about it and 'Umar said that although Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Companions did it but he did not like people having intercourse with their wives beneath the arak trees or going out for Hajj with their heads dripping from ghusl. This hadith teaches us that we should always follow the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH as well as his companions when it comes to religious matters such as performing rituals during Hajj or any other religious activities. We should also be careful while giving fatwas so that we do not give wrong advice which can lead people astray from Islam's teachings.
