Musnad Ahmad 339 (Book 2, Hadith 245) #34020
The Story of Two Wives Who Opposed the Prophet

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the story of two wives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who opposed him and how Umar ibn Al-Khattab responded to it.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: I wanted to ask 'Umar something but I did not find a chance, so I waited for two years. Then when we were in Marr Az-Zahran, he went to relieve himself, then he came after relieving himself and I poured water for him, I said: O Ameer al-Mu'mineen, who are the two women who helped one another against the Messenger of Allah '? He said: 'A'ishah and Hafsah'. As mentioned in the Qur'an: 'If you two (wives of the Prophet ) turn in repentance to Allah. (it will be better for you), your hearts are indeed so inclined to oppose what the Prophet likes); but if you help one another against him (Muhammad ). then verily, Allah is his Maula (Lord, or Master, or Protector), and Jibril (Gabriel). and the righteous among the believers, and furthermore, the angels are his helpers' (surah at-Tahrim 66:3)

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us a story about two wives of Prophet Muhammad, A'ishah and Hafsah, who opposed him. Ibn 'Abbas wanted to ask Umar ibn Al-Khattab about this incident but he couldn't find a chance for two years until they were in Marr Az-Zahran. When Umar went to relieve himself, Ibn 'Abbas poured water for him and asked his question. Umar answered that it was indeed A'ishah and Hafsah who helped one another against the Messenger of Allah as mentioned in Surat At-Taharim 66 verse 3 which states that if these two women turn in repentance to Allah then their hearts will be inclined towards what the prophet likes but if they help one another against him then Allah is his Lord, Jibril is his helper and righteous believers are also his helpers. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to obey our beloved prophet even when we face difficulties or opposition from others because Allah will always be there with His help for those who follow His commands sincerely. We should also remember that repentance can bring us closer to Him if we sincerely regret our wrongdoings and try not to repeat them again in future.
