Musnad Ahmad 317 (Book 2, Hadith 224) #33999
The Importance of Adhering to Islamic Traditions

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of continuing to practice the rituals and traditions that were established during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It was narrated from Zaid bin Aslam, from his father who said: I heard 'Umar bin al-Khattab say: Why are we running now and uncovering our shoulders (in tawaf) when Allah has caused Islam to prevail and has eliminated kufr and its people? Whatever the case, we will never give up something that we did at the time of the Messenger of Allah .

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your religion by adhering its traditions and practices .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how important it is for Muslims to continue practicing the rituals and traditions that were established during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Umar bin al-Khattab was questioning why they should continue running around in tawaf when Islam has already prevailed and kufr has been eliminated. He was implying that since they have already achieved victory over their enemies, there is no need for them to keep doing these rituals. However, he then goes on to say that they will never give up something that they did at the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This shows us how important it is for us as Muslims to adhere to our religious practices even if we have achieved success in other areas. It teaches us not only respect for our religion but also loyalty towards our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
