Grieving for the Deceased

SUMMARY: The deceased will be tormented if their family members cry over them.

It was narrated from Sa’eed bin al-Musayyab that 'Umar (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'The deceased is tormented because of the weeping of his family over him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have patience & faith; Respect death; Take comfort through prayer & remembrance instead of excessive crying/wailing
EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith states that when a person passes away, they will be tormented in the grave due to the crying of their family members. This means that it is not permissible to excessively cry and wail over a deceased person as this causes them pain and suffering in the afterlife. It is important to remember that death is an inevitable part of life, and although it can be difficult to accept, we must remain patient and have faith in Allah's decree. We should also remember that our loved ones are now with Allah, so we should take comfort in knowing they are safe with Him. We can still express our grief through prayer and remembrance of them instead of excessive crying or wailing which may cause harm to the deceased.
