Musnad Ahmad 300 (Book 2, Hadith 207) #33982
The Power of Intention

SUMMARY: Actions are determined by intentions, and one will only receive the reward for what they intended.

'Alqamah bin Waqqas al Laithi said that he heard 'Umar bin al-Khattab addressing the people, and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: "Action is but by intention and each person will have but that which he intended. So whoever migrated for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, then his migration was for the sake of Allah and His Messenger, whoever migrated for some worldly purpose or for the sake of a woman whom he could marry, his migration was for the purpose for which he migrated".

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully about your intentions before taking any action so that you can ensure that your actions are done solely for the sake of Allah and His Messenger in order to gain His pleasure and rewards in this life and hereafter .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of intention in our actions. It teaches us that we will only be rewarded for what we intend to do and not necessarily for what we actually do. For example, if someone migrates from their home country to another country with a worldly purpose such as finding a job or getting married, they will not receive any reward from Allah because their intention was not pure. However, if someone migrates with the intention of pleasing Allah and His Messenger then they will be rewarded accordingly. This hadith also encourages us to think carefully about our intentions before taking any action so that we can ensure that our actions are done solely for the sake of Allah and His Messenger in order to gain His pleasure and rewards in this life and hereafter.
