Musnad Ahmad 264 (Book 2, Hadith 178) #33953
Grief and its Effects on Living and Deceased

SUMMARY: The deceased are affected by their family's grief, but living people are not affected by the grief of those who have passed away.

It was narrated that Qaza'ah said: I said to Ibn 'Umar: is the deceased tormented because of the weeping of this living one? He said: 'Umar narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah , and I did not lie when narrating from 'Umar, and 'Umar did not lie when narrating from the Messenger of Allah .

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful about how you grieve your loved ones after they pass away. Respect those who have gone from this world by being compassionate towards others during your grieving process.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when a person passes away, their loved ones may feel immense sadness or grief. However, this does not affect them in any way as they have already passed away. On the other hand, if a person who has passed away has family members who are still alive and grieving for them, then this can cause torment for them in their grave. This teaches us to be mindful about how we grieve for our loved ones after they pass away as it can affect them even after death. We should also remember that although we may feel immense sadness at times due to our loss, it will not affect those who have already gone from this world.
