Musnad Ahmad 163 (Book 2, Hadith 80) #33855
Celebrating Eids with Fasting Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade fasting on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and encouraged people to break their fast on Eid al-Fitr and eat the meat of their sacrifices on Eid al-Adha.

Abu 'Ubaid said: I was present at Eid with 'Umar, and he started with the prayer before the khutbah. He said: The Messenger of Allah forbade fasting on these two days. The day of al-Fitr is the day when you break your fast, and on the day of al-Adha, eat the meat of your sacrifices.

QUICK LESSONS:
Celebrate Eids by breaking fasts or eating sacrificial meats .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu 'Ubaid states that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade fasting on two special days - Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha. On these days, Muslims are encouraged to celebrate by breaking their fasts for the former, and eating the meat of their sacrifices for the latter. This is a reminder that Allah has blessed us with these two special occasions as a reward for our hard work throughout Ramadan, as well as an opportunity to remember those who are less fortunate than us. It also serves as a reminder that we should be grateful for all our blessings from Allah, no matter how small they may seem.
