Retaliation and Forgiveness

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that a father should not be killed in retaliation for the killing of his son.

Umar bin Al Khattab رضي الله عنه said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say 'No father is to be killed in retaliatory punishment for killing his son'
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ لَا يُقَادُ لِوَلَدٍ مِنْ وَالِدِهِ‏.‏

The Prophet taught that a father should not be killed in retaliation for the killing of his son. This hadith teaches us to forgive instead of seeking revenge, as revenge can lead to more violence and destruction.
