SUMMARY: If you find stolen goods with someone, burn it and give its price in charity.

It was narrated from Salim bin 'Abdullah that he was with Maslamah bin 'Abdul-Malik in the land of the Byzantines, and they found some stolen booty with a man's goods. He asked Salim bin 'Abdullah and he said: 'Abdullah bin 'Umar toid me from 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "If you find stolen booty with a man, then burn it and I think he said: and beat him". This hadith is about dealing with stolen goods. It was narrated from Salim bin 'Abdullah that he was with Maslamah bin 'Abdul-Malik in the land of the Byzantines, and they found some stolen booty with a man's goods. He asked Salim bin 'Abdullah and he said that Abdullah bin Umar told him from Umar that the Messenger of Allah said "If you find stolen booty with a man, then burn it and I think he said and beat him." So they took his property out to the market and found a Mushaf among his goods. He asked Salim who said to sell it, and gave its price in charity. The essence of this hadith is that if one finds something which has been stolen, then they should burn it instead of keeping or selling it as this would be considered wrong according to Islamic teachings. Furthermore, any money gained from selling such items should be given away as charity so as not to benefit from something which has been taken unlawfully.
