Revering the Ka'bah and Following the Prophet's Example

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Umar bin al-Khattab's reverence for the Ka'bah and his example of following the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) example.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that 'Umar bin al-Khattab رضي الله عنه held onto the corner of the Ka'bah and said: I know that you are only a stone; if I had not seen my Beloved kiss you or touch you, I would not have touched you or kissed you".Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad ) you have a good example to follow" (al-Ahzab 33:21.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَكَبَّ عَلَى الرُّكْنِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ وَلَوْ لَمْ أَرَ حَبِيبِي قَبَّلَكَ وَاسْتَلَمَكَ مَا اسْتَلَمْتُكَ وَلَا قَبَّلْتُكَ وَ لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ‏.‏

This hadith is about Umar bin al-Khattab's reverence for the Ka'bah and his example of following in the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). When he saw that his beloved Prophet had kissed or touched it, he followed suit out of respect. This shows us how important it is to follow in our beloved prophet’s footsteps as an example to live by. We should strive to emulate him in all aspects of our lives so that we can be closer to Allah SWT. Additionally, this hadith teaches us how important it is to show respect for holy places like mosques and other religious sites. We should always treat them with reverence and respect as they are sacred places where we can connect with Allah SWT through prayer and worship.
