Musnad Ahmad 122 (Book 2, Hadith 40) #33815
The Three Things Umar Learned from the Prophet

SUMMARY: Umar advised al-Ash'ath to learn three things from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): not to ask a man why he hit his wife, to pray Witr before sleeping, and something else which was forgotten.

It was narrated that al-Ash'ath bin Qais said : I visited 'Umar and he reached out and hit his wife. He said : O: Ash'ath, learn from me three things that I learned from the Messenger of Allah : Do not ask a man why he hit his wife, do not sleep until you pray Witr - and I forgot the third thing

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the advice given by Umar ibn al Khattab to Al Ash'ath bin Qais. He told him that he should learn three things from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The first thing was not to ask a man why he hit his wife. This teaches us that it is wrong for us to interfere in other people's personal matters and we should respect their privacy. The second thing was that one should always pray Witr before going to sleep as this is an important part of our faith and worship of Allah. The third thing was forgotten but it could have been something related to good manners or etiquette when dealing with others. We can also learn from this hadith that we should always strive for knowledge and try our best not forget what we have learned so that we can benefit from it in our lives.
