The Five Names of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the five names of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and their meanings.

Narrated Jubair bin Mut'im: Allah's Messenger said, "I have five names: I am Muhammad and Ahmad; I am Al-Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate infidelity; I am Al-Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected, the people being resurrected there after; and I am also Al-'Aqib (ie There will be no prophet after me).
حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَعْنٌ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لِي خَمْسَةُ أَسْمَاءٍ أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، وَأَحْمَدُ، وَأَنَا الْمَاحِي الَّذِي يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِي الْكُفْرَ، وَأَنَا الْحَاشِرُ الَّذِي يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ عَلَى قَدَمِي، وَأَنَا الْعَاقِبُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the five names of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and their meanings. The first name is Muhammad which means praised one; Ahmad means more praised one; Al-Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate infidelity; Al-Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected; and lastly he is also known as Al-'Aqib which means there will be no prophet after him. These names are a reminder for us to follow in his footsteps and strive to live our lives according to his teachings. We should remember that he was sent by Allah as a mercy for all mankind and that we should strive to emulate his example in our daily lives.
