Sunan Ibn Majah 4319 (Book 37, Hadith 220) #33675
The Fire's Exhalation

SUMMARY: Allah gave the Fire two occasions to exhale, one in winter and one in summer, which is why we experience intense cold and heat.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: "The Fire complained to its Lord and said: 'O Lord, parts of me have consumed other parts.’ So He gave it two occasions to exhale, one in winter and one in summer. The intense cold that you feel (in winter) is part of its severe frost (Zamharir) and the intense heat that you feel in summer is part of its hot wind (Haruur)".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be thankful for the balance created by Allah on Earth .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains why we experience extreme temperatures during the winter and summer seasons. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said that the Fire complained to its Lord about parts of it consuming other parts. In response, Allah gave it two occasions to exhale - one in winter and one in summer. The intense cold that we feel during winter is part of its severe frost called Zamharir, while the intense heat that we feel during summer is part of its hot wind called Haruur. This hadith teaches us about how Allah has created a balance between different elements so as to maintain harmony on Earth. We should be thankful for this balance as it allows us to live comfortably on Earth without having to worry about extreme temperatures all year round.
