Envy Only Permissible in Two Cases

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that envy is only permissible in two cases, when a person has been given knowledge of the Quran and when a person has been given wealth.

It was narrated from Salim that his father said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'There is no envy except in two cases. A man to whom Allah has given (knowledge of) the Qur’an, so he recites it night and day, and a man to whom Allah has given wealth, so he spends it night and day.’"

QUICK LESSONS:
Be grateful for what you are given by Allah , Use your gifts wisely for His sake .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught that envy is not permissible except in two cases. The first case is when Allah has blessed someone with knowledge of the Qur'an and they recite it day and night. This means that if someone has been granted this gift from Allah, then it is okay to feel envious of them because they have something special that others do not have. The second case where envy is allowed is when Allah grants someone wealth and they spend it day and night. This means that if someone has been blessed with financial resources, then it is okay to feel envious of them because they have something special that others do not have. In both cases, the Prophet Muhammad was teaching us to be grateful for what we are given by Allah and to use our gifts wisely for His sake.
