The Reward of Suppressing Anger

SUMMARY: Suppressing anger and seeking the pleasure of Allah brings great reward.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is no gulp that brings greater reward with Allah than a gulp of anger that a man swallows (suppresses), seeking thereby the Face of Allah".
حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ ـ ‏ "‏ مَا مِنْ جُرْعَةٍ أَعْظَمُ أَجْرًا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ جُرْعَةِ غَيْظٍ كَظَمَهَا عَبْدٌ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of controlling one's anger and suppressing it in order to seek the pleasure of Allah. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said, "There is no gulp that brings greater reward with Allah than a gulp of anger that a man swallows, seeking thereby the Face of Allah." This means that when we are able to control our emotions and suppress our anger, we will be rewarded greatly by God for doing so. We should strive to do this in order to please Him and gain His favor. By controlling our emotions, we can also avoid making mistakes or hurting others due to our uncontrolled rage. Therefore, it is important for us to learn how to manage our emotions in order for us to live a peaceful life as well as gain rewards from God.
