Sahih al-Bukhari 3508 (Book 61, Hadith 18) #3350
The Consequences of False Identity Claims

SUMMARY: Making false claims about one's identity is a sin and will lead to punishment in the afterlife.

Narrated Abu Dhar: The Prophet said, "If somebody claims to be the son of any other than his real father knowingly, he but disbelieves in Allah, and if somebody claims to belong to some folk to whom he does not belong, let such a person take his place in the (Hell) Fire".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and truthful about one's identity
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warns us against making false claims about our identity. He said that if someone knowingly claims to be the son of someone other than their real father, they are disbelieving in Allah and will face punishment in the afterlife. Similarly, if someone falsely claims to belong to a certain group or people, they too will face consequences for their actions. This hadith teaches us that we should always be honest and truthful about who we are and where we come from, as lying is a major sin in Islam. We must also remember that Allah knows all our secrets and lies, so it is important for us to stay away from falsehoods at all times.
