Sunan Ibn Majah 4018 (Book 36, Hadith 93) #33373
Allah's Mercy and Punishment

SUMMARY: Allah gives people time to repent for their wrongdoings, but when He decides to punish them, He will not let them go.

It was narrated from Abu Musa that the Messenger of Allah said: 'Allah gives respite to the wrongdoer, then when He seizes him, He does not let him go". Then he recited: "Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong".11:102

QUICK LESSONS:
Take advantage of opportunities for repentance
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the mercy and punishment of Allah. It is narrated by Abu Musa that the Messenger of Allah said that Allah gives respite to those who do wrong, but when He decides it is time for punishment, He will not let them go. The hadith then recites a verse from the Quran which further explains this concept. This verse states that when Allah seizes a town while they are doing wrong, His seizure is powerful and cannot be escaped from. This hadith teaches us that although we may be given time to repent for our sins, if we do not take advantage of this opportunity then we will face severe consequences in the end. We should always remember that no matter how much mercy and forgiveness Allah shows us, His punishment is also very real and should never be taken lightly or ignored.
