Warning of Impending Evil

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned the Arabs of an impending evil and said that if sin and evil deeds increase, destruction will follow.

It was narrated that Zainab bint Jahsh said: "The Messenger of Allah woke up red in the face and said: 'La ilaha illallah, woe to the Arabs from an evil that has drawn nigh. Today a hole has been opened in the barrier of Gog and Magog.’ And he gestured to indicate the size of the hole". Zainab said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Will we be destroyed when there are righteous people among us?’ He said: 'If sin and evil deeds increase.’"

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) woke up one day with a red face, indicating his distress. He then uttered the words “La ilaha illallah” which is an Arabic phrase meaning “there is no god but Allah”. He then warned the Arabs of an impending evil that was drawing near them, saying that a hole had been opened in the barrier of Gog and Magog. When Zainab asked if they would be destroyed even though there were righteous people among them, he replied that destruction would come if sin and evil deeds increased.
