Sunan Ibn Majah 3891 (Book 34, Hadith 65) #33245
Expecting Rain But Receiving Punishment

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's reaction to a cloud that looked like it was bringing rain. He would be relieved if it did rain, and he reminded 'Aishah of the people of Hud who were expecting rain but instead received punishment.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "If the Messenger of Allah saw a cloud that looked as if it was bringing rain, the color of his face would change, and he would go in and out and walk to and fro. Then, if it rained, he would feel relieved"'.Aishah mentioned to him what she had seen him do, and he said: "How do you know? Perhaps it would be as the people of Hud said: 'Then, when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said: "This is a cloud bringing us rain!" Nay, but it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened". 46:24

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's reaction to a cloud that looked like it was bringing rain. When he saw such a cloud, his face would change and he would go in and out and walk to and fro. If it did indeed bring rain, then he would feel relieved. 'Aishah mentioned this to him, and in response, the Prophet reminded her of the people of Hud who were expecting rain but instead received punishment from Allah for their sins. This hadith teaches us that we should not take anything for granted; even if something looks certain or likely, we should still be wary as Allah can always surprise us with something else entirely. We must also remember that Allah will punish those who disobey Him no matter how much they may expect otherwise; therefore we must strive to obey Him at all times so as not to incur His wrath upon ourselves or our loved ones.
