Sunan Ibn Majah 3864 (Book 34, Hadith 38) #33218
The Importance of Asking Allah for Paradise

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of asking Allah for Paradise and seeking refuge from Hell, rather than asking for specific things.

It was narrated from Abu Na'amah that : 'Abdullah bin Mughaffal heard his son say: "O Allah, I ask You for the white palace on the right-hand side of Paradise, when I enter it". He said: "O my son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge with Him from Hell, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) say: 'There will be people who will transgress in supplication'."

supplication  *  paradise  *  hell

QUICK LESSONS:
Ask specifically instead of generally ; Seek refuge with God from hell ; Ask God only what is best ; Remember God's mercy and grace ; Be humble when making supplications .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we make supplications to Allah, we should ask Him for the highest reward - Paradise - and seek refuge from the worst punishment - Hell. We should not be too specific in our requests as it may lead us to transgressing in our supplications. Instead of asking for a white palace on the right-hand side of paradise, we should focus on asking Allah to grant us entry into His paradise and protect us from His wrath. It is important that we remember this lesson so that our prayers are accepted by Him.
