Sunan Ibn Majah 3837 (Book 34, Hadith 11) #33191
Seeking Refuge from Unbeneficial Knowledge

SUMMARY: Seeking refuge from knowledge that is of no benefit, a heart that does not fear Allah, a soul that is never satisfied and a supplication that is not heard.

Abu Hurairah told that the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said: 'Allahumma! Inni a'udhu bika minal-arba': min 'ilmin la yanfa'u, wa min qalbin la yakhsha'u, wa min nafsin la tashba'u, wa min du'a'in la yusma' O Allah, I seek refuge with You from four things: From knowledge that is of no benefit, from a heart that does not fear (You), from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not heard'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith was narrated by Abu Hurairah and it speaks about seeking refuge from four things. The first thing mentioned in the hadith was seeking refuge from knowledge which has no benefit. This means to be careful when acquiring knowledge as it should be beneficial and useful for us in our lives. The second thing mentioned was seeking refuge from having a heart which does not fear Allah. It means to have faith in Allah and to always remember Him so we can stay away from sins and bad deeds. The third thing mentioned was seeking refuge from having an unsatisfied soul, meaning we should always strive for more good deeds so our souls can be content with what we have done for the sake of Allah. Lastly, the hadith mentions seeking refuge from supplications which are not heard by Allah; this means to make sure our duas are sincere and heartfelt so they will be accepted by Him. All these teachings remind us of how important it is to stay close to Allah through faith, good deeds, beneficial knowledge, and sincere duas so He will accept them all!
