Sunan Ibn Majah 3783 (Book 33, Hadith 127) #33137
The Likeness of the Quran

SUMMARY: The Quran is like a hobbled camel, if it is tied with its rope, it will stay but if the rope is loosened, it will go away.

It was narrated from Ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "The likeness of the Quran is that of a hobbled camel. If its owner ties its rope, he will keep it, but if he loosens its rope it will go away".

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep a strong bond with Allah’s words; Understand and read the Qur’an; Stay on track in life; Do not lose one’s way in life.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that the Quran should be kept close to us and not let go of. It compares the Quran to a hobbled camel which means that when its owner ties its rope, he can keep it and control where it goes. However, if he loosens its rope then the camel will wander off and be lost. Similarly, when we keep our connection with Allah's words strong by reading and understanding them then we can stay on track in life but if we loosen our connection with them then we may lose our way in life. This hadith teaches us to always keep our bond with Allah's words strong so that they can guide us through life.
